Back To The FIFA: Gameplay

iRoobot

Ok, so earlier this morning we launched our Back To The FIFA series asking you to start thinking about the future of FIFA not just for next year, or the year after that but three, five maybe even ten years in the future with the only limitation being your own imagination. First up, we want you to think about FIFA Gameplay.

We’ve seen some major advancements in FIFA’s gameplay since the move to next-gen consoles with 360 Dribble, Personality Plus, Skill Moves, Precision Dribble, Tactical Defending and the Impact Engine all now mainstays of the current FIFA series. But what other new technology would you like to see represented in FIFA’s gameplay?

No ideas are off limits here guys and no suggestion is too silly, or too wild just literally empty your brain (not literally) in to the comments section. Think passing, shooting, free-kicks, penalties, collisions, referees, AI, animations, tactics, motion control, virtual reality, voice control anything you think FIFA could embrace or benefit from on the pitch over the next ten years.

Right that’s enough rambling from me, the comments are yours. What do you think is the future of FIFA gameplay?

I have a question, and i will be very happy if someone knows
    the answer:

i would like that fifa takes 2 elements from pes. Is it legal?
Can they do it, or it is registerd as a patent?

    The 2 elements are:
1.the easy way to make your formation (select and drag)
2.the ability to select a player (when playing) and tell
him to make a run forward (with no need to make
    a double pass)

    Thanks for answering

I would like to be able to wear a mic and be able to say “Messi, take a run”, “Pique, cover Ronaldo”, “Pass me the ball” (Be A Pro) etc. Any sort of voice command would be convenient.

  3. zack says:

    nice one seph…

until 2016 maybe it will be mind controll command (you
will not have even to speak)

  4. Alastair says:

I would like them to bring back the intervene option while simming a match

  5. Axel says:

I would like that the weather has a more deep impact on the game
for example, wind factor or some real heavy storm, with huge ass water splashes on the field that can turn a pass into a mess really.
You know, that would be very challenging
and I would like that the match intro in case the weather is too fucked up be like, comentators debating whether if the game should be played or not, and referees examining the whole field, while they try to cover theirselves from the heavy rain and wind, in a nice cutscene
This might sounds stupid, but it sure adds to the atmosphere if u stop to think about it. What Seph said about being able to wear a mic and play the commentator also would be nice haha. I can’t think of many other things cuz fifa seems a nearly perfect game already. But the weather thing would be taking the game one step further in terms of realism.

  6. James says:

    How about this:

Ever on a counter attack and you wanted your player to make a run in a certain direction, but didn’t? What if you could have a “video study” where you tell the computer what play you had in mind, and the more you do this the more your computer realizes your style and starts to make runs that you envision?

  7. William says:

Better Edit Mode. You should be able to edit players hairstyles and beard and stuff like that.

When you create a player it would be nice with a boot customization. I also think they should have a option to create a team in the game, like the NHL games. So you can add real players and customize kits and logos.

It would be fun if they put in a ”First Person” camera angle. Like the Call of duty or Battlefield games, but football instead of war.

When a player tackles another, you should be able to press a button and like push him. Cuz it’s very much fighting in the real games (just look at el classico) and the FIFA games would be a little more realistic if they added fighting.

    Add some more celebrations like:
    Take of your shirt
Run to the bench and hug some one

Add managers that you can see standing an pointing and shouting at the players. Also give them realistic faces like in the FIFA WORLD CUP

  8. Axel says:

What william said about making a new camera style sounds really badass, I kinda picture a mirror’s edge cam but in a football pitch, this might take more than one year to be release, but who cares aslong as they develop it, that would be thinking outside the box, maybe we could expect for that in fifa 14, would be great to see it done someday.
I also agree on the edit mode features. Oh and please please please, you need to seriously change the theather mode for replays, seeing them in that crappy quality sucks!

I think fifa needs referee’s and linesmen to make mistakes to create controversy. the atmosphere feels to alike in every stadium and country aswell and i feel that say in a rival match boo’s need to ring around the stadium when a bad tackle is made and fans chanting for a penalty or red card etc to make you feel like your in the game. and i feel referee’s need to be more involved and have ratings such as coolness under pressure and how they can handle certain games and they could maybe lose their cool in a game and start handing out more cards. i also feel the passing is abit to generic and old and needs to have a bit more variety such as half volley passes across the pitch like gerrard can do. also as someone said before the weather needs to play more of a part in the games such as rain creates a wetter surface and the ball moves around quicker or wind stops the ball moving far in the air and you have to change your way of playing to suit the conditions as teams would do in real life. there is lots more that fifa can improve on.

  10. David says:

I think they should create a new way of interacting with the ball. In every football game ever made ball control has always functioned in such a way that its like you are the ball. Wherever you point to thats where you and the ball goes together. I think this is how it should be:

The left analog stick should control your player while the right stick functions as your feet controlling the ball. This way you can tap the ball and stay in the same place to draw a foul or a penalty. You coyld also play the ball into one space and go right or left. This would function like a pass to yourself mechanism. For more sophisticated ball control you would use a trigger button in conjuction with the right stick. Also, the sophistication with the ball in your control would depend on the players talent. The point is you gotta follow the ball when dribbling as oppose to simply mazing your way with it.

Another idea I had was that EA should implement more right stick controls. Here are some examples:

Right stick shooting: this would make it easier to run one way and shoot the other way.
Right stick passing: Like shooting, makes passing smoother.
Right stick crossing: This would help as sometimes when you run on the wing the direction that you are running towards merges with the direccion you are aiming to cross the ball to and you end up throwing the ball out. This would make it easier to pick your passing direccion without running direccion getting in the way.

Finally, I think they should add icons for playing long balls because the long ball game is too difficult to play. I have two ideas for icon passing:

    1. By player.
    2. By zone.

    1. By player: Icons appear above players heads and you can choose to pass ahead, to his right, left, in front etc etc. the more you power it up the further it goes. The accuracy and effectiveness of the long balls should depend on the long passing rating of the player you are using.

    2. By zone: Here icons would appear in corresponding zones and the more you power up the pass the further it goes, when you select a zone to pass into you can choose to pass towards to the right side of that zone or deep further etc. So if Im in the centre of the pitch and I activate the zonal passing icons I will probably get about six zones to pass into ahead of me. If I choose to pass towards the far left corner of the pitch for a winger to run into I would select that corresponding zone icon and would point towards upper left simultaneously to make the pass. The accuracy would depend on the passing ratings of my player.
