FSB 2009 Podcast #16: PES 2010 and FIFA 10 Patch #2

So PES 2010 is out now, as well as FIFA 10 patch #2. Is the new PES good enough to challenge FIFA? Is FIFA patch #2 enough? Here’s 24 minutes of what I think.

FSB 2009 Podcast #15: FIFA 10 Review

It’s that time of the year! The latest football games have been released and it’s time for my review of FIFA 10, so what better way to review the game than via a podcast?

360° dribbling and refined gameplay in general make the game a winner for me, but that’s not to say it’s perfect. Hit the play button below for my full impressions.

FSB 2009 Podcast #14: Home Improvement

First thing’s first – I love the FIFA 10 demo. In my opinion it’s the best football game I’ve ever played, and when playing with friends it’s the best multiplayer experience I’ve ever had.

Secondly, and most importantly – all of the opinions within this podcast are based on the demo, which is not representative of the retail version of the game. Remember that!

Now that that’s out of the way I can explain the idea behind this podcast; I think we can all agree that constructive criticism is a wonderful thing and that feedback is essential.

All throughout the period of our Emirates playtest we were waxing lyrical about how good FIFA 10 is, but with three hours of play under our belts there wasn’t much time to look out for the things that could use improvement. So in a change from our normal 60 minutes of glee and excitement, here is a 25 minute podcast dedicated to the things I want to see changed in the final version of the game, and/or via patches. EA, I hope you’re listening!

(Oh, and the PES 2010 demo gets a mention as well.)

FSB 2009 Podcast #13: Demo Countdown

It’s hard to believe that this will be the last edition of the FSB podcast before the FIFA 10 demo is released. It feels like it’s been forever, and what’s worse is that while there’s only 4 days to go until we can all play FIFA 10, there’s still 26 days until we can play the full game (44 days if you live in the US or Canada).

In this podcast episode I speak to dave797 of the EA forums about his experience of FIFA 10 down at the Emirates (including his thoughts on player individuality being better this year), as well as what he thinks of the latest Manager Mode screenshots and also the “ping-pong passing” that appears in the Gamescom videos.

FSB 2009 Podcast #12: Gamescom Goodness

Bet you didn’t see this one coming! In this 40-minute surprise early edition of the FSB podcast, I’m joined by special guest Tim7 throughout and we discuss Gamescom, the Virtual Pro announcement and our “Store Boost” concerns, and finally the gameplay videos that are coming out of the event – as well as more of our opinions of the game from our playtest at the Emirates last week. Please remember that all impressions contained within this podcast are based on early builds of the game, not the final code.

Also please note that since this podcast was recorded, Mike Takla – who has worked on FIFA 10’s Virtual Pro mode – had the following to say about the stat boost DLC which has put my fears to rest (a little bit at least):

You can buy an upgrade yes. It will improve some of your technical attributes for a limited time. It won’t make you stronger or faster and it won’t put you in a position where you can have a player better or even equal to someone who plays the game regularly.

There seems to be some concern that this will ruin the mode, but we’re talking about people being able to make some of their atttributes 5-10 points better for a few matches, compared to being able to make them 20-30 better forever by playing as well as able to improve a lot of other skills you can’t get from the Store.
