EA SPORTS Challenge Series Coming To FIFA 13

It’s Back! The EA SPORTS Challenge Series powered by Virgin Gaming will be making its way to FIFA 13 and that means more tournaments and more money for you guys.

The Challenge Series ran for the first time this year culminating in the grand final in New York where the UK’s Adam Winster walked away with a whopping $167,000 after beating FIFA 12 players from around the world. The other guys we know that made the trip to NYC all did well enough to cover their expenses so the tournament seemed to work out pretty well for most.

We’ll bring you all the official details when we have them but there’s no doubt this is great news for FIFA 13 and it’s PS3 fan base. Thanks to Sweetpatch.tv for the heads up.

Did you go to the EA SPORTS Challenge Series in April? Will you be entering again for FIFA 13? Let us know.

    What about 360?

Had a look at this, but just like the fifa interactive world cup, I can’t be bothered with it. When are manual players going to be included and given opportunity of tournaments?

I would like to enter and enjoy a competition even though I probably wouldn’t come close to winning, but I just can’t enjoy playing on assisted and no amount of money will attract me to endure all the assisted frustration.

They should create a variety of tournaments for different type players not just cater for assisted players.

To be fair I don’t think I’d bother with a manual tournament, as there is a lot of bull on the manual H2H leaderboards with out adding cash to the equation, but the opportunity should be there none the less.

  • David Humber

I would imagine you can play Manual, Semi or Assisted. Get on it instead of being a big girls blouse about it.

  • Toby Ross

That’s an especially flippant way to respond to a completely reasonable point David. Not only does the status quo practically force people to play on (mostly) assisted settings to succeed in a competitive environment, but it’s also not particularly fun for those converted by the joys of manual.

FIFA is at its worst when as a competitive game – part of the reason for that is that it’s a ‘race to the bottom’ with assists, making it very clear from the offset that ‘the best’ are people who surrender most of their control to the CPU.

  • Rob

A partly reasonable point Toby, in that why would you spend money on the minority? Virgin are a business, not a charity after all.

  • Toby Ross

    @Rob:

Why would they spend on the minority? For the same reason that Coca Cola makes Diet Coke I imagine – you’d want to access the broadest market possible. But yes, my point is more aimed at EA’s handling of the competitive side of FIFA, be it be this or the FIWC. The quality of the competition should be prioritised. Popular sports are fascinating because of the battle between closely matched individuals or teams – FIFA’s assistance makes a mockery of the spirit of decent competition. Assistance can exist within competition, but assistance cannot be beneficial to the best.

Most people use assisted either because they don’t know anything else exists, or because it’s most effective. EA don’t change assisted because it’s so popular. It’s a rut, and one that FIFA has been stuck in for years.
