EA: “We Want FIFA 14 To Outsell Call Of Duty”

EA are confident that FIFA 14 could finally be the game that pips Call of Duty in sales this year and be the best selling game of the year.

This is echoed by FIFA 14 producer Sebastian Enrique who stated that whilst Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series is competition, they also share the same stance for Activision’s highly successful Call of Duty series. They feel that the improvements in FIFA 14 will create for a more rewarding experience and therefore they hope FIFA 14 will be the best selling game of the year. Speaking to MCV, Mr Enrique stated:

“I respect Konami a lot and they produce good games. A lot of people have played their games for ages. I think having competition is a good thing but we don’t consider competition to just be Pro Evolution Soccer. Call of Duty is also competition, People that are playing Call of Duty are not playing FIFA. We want them to play FIFA and we achieve that by creating the best possible game that we can create. That’s what we focus on. We want to exceed everyone’s expectations and exceed our own expectations and create the best game. Competition or not, these goals are not going to change for us.”

Do you think FIFA 14 can outsell the Call of Duty series? Let us know your thoughts via the comment section below.

so FIFA is gonna get more casual with every release.. god i hope PES gets back its magic from ps2 days so i dont have to play FIFA

  • Lucio Mennillo

They focus always on the casual gamer, thats why the game has gotten so bad. They forget its us the hardcore gamer’s that made the game what it is today.

I prefer GTA V to achieve that, than FIFA

  • jochen

simple… just make a good football game… and not only updates… with pes getting a new engine this year im not convinced that fifa will sell more… even so it shows that its all about the money not the game

  • disqus_hd0CM0Oc2G

Fifa is better than call of duty

  • Kieren devine

to be fair your only going to play fifa or pes if you like football games, I like football games therefore I’m going to buy fifa 14 but the market for shooters is much more popular therefore call of duty will out-sell fifa due to gamers not liking football as much as shooting guys in the gut.

The game is actually improving now. I also hope PES is good by the time FIFA is a complete Best seller arcade game.

  • Francisco Larrañaga Hermosillo

But you got to keep in mind that football is the most popular sport in the world

Unfortunately, too many people play that shit game to be able to be outsold by any game of this era /: Maybe during the next-gen era coming soon, games like Battlefield and Crysis will start outselling CoD because CoD simply does not have the tech to produce such games for the next generation.

Out selling CoD isn’t going to happen with the features they have announced so far I can actually see them lose quite a lot of people this upcoming game. PES is actually doing something that will completely change their game something FIFA isn’t able to do. The one thing that EA does have in common with CoD at least so far is the lack of new innovations pushing their games to greater heights instead of take little by little steps each game.

I don’t think people are half as excited to see FIFA as they are PES.

    No Mr Enrique.
You don’t care if people play the game, because if you do, EA wouldn’t sell a game that 7 months later it’s release still freezes.
What you want is to SELL the game…
    2 different things.

  • fifa is king

It wont outsell Cod…ea should be happy they have the second biggest seller

  • Lucio Mennillo

Wow what a statement from EA!!! Wait who cares…….. Nobody we car about the gameplay. The title should be EA will focus completely on gameplay this year and making it the best game possible.

  • Shevar

This statement clearly shows how sad EA truly is and how torn up their egos are about COD’s sales success.
Instead of making a good Medal Of Honor, which was (together with BF) their COD “killer”, they, in all their sadness, would be happy if a Sports title would outsell COD.
    Truly baffling.

To be honest, I foresee bad things in the future regarding FIFA. Konami is already outdoing them, pure from the intent of creating a new PES engine that will run on Next-Gen ass well as Current-Gen consoles.
Konami is clearly showing that they want to target the largest pool of consumers out there to sell them their new vision of PES, while EA is giving us the same game minus a few improvements on Current-Gen hardware.

I predict that the truly “New” FIFA on Next-Gen will be a new engine with minimal game modes and leagues. Basically, FIFA 2007 all over again.
And then they can sell us back all the features we had in previous games as “new” features.

    Fuc you EA

  • Teflon

I’ll be too busy playing GTAV not this auto-game/movie that is FIFA. The focus on the casuals has really put me off this game.

I pray for the day the outcome of a game of virtual football is actually determined by skill and not a 90 minute mish-mash of random events.
