FIFA 12: Gameplay Sliders

Time now for the final post in our list bonanza. You’ve had League/Team, Stadiums, Trophies. Now we give you, the Gameplay sliders.

EA are introducing sliders this year to allow you to customise your own experience. Each slider can be changed for both the user and CPU teams seperately and can be done, on the fly, mid match.

Sprint Speed

Modifies the maximum sprint speed a team can reach.

Acceleration

Modifies the time it takes for a teams player to reach their maximum speed.

Shot Error

Increases/Reduces the amount of error applied to a teams normal shots. This doesn’t affect other types of shots (i.e finesse).

Pass Error

Increases/Reduces the amount of error applied to a teams ground passes. This does not affect other types of passes.

Shot Speed

Increases/reduces the amount of speed applied to a teams normal shots. This doesn’t affect other types of shots (i.e finesse).

Pass Speed

Increases/reduces the amount of speed applied to a teams ground passes. This doesn’t affect other types of passes.

Injury Frequency

Increases/reduces the frequency that injuries occur within a team.

Injury Severity

When a player from a team gets an injury, this will increase/reduce the severity.

Goalkeeper Ability

Increases/reduces the saving ability of the goalkeeper.

Positioning: Marking

Increases/decreases how tightly the defenders mark their opponents.

Positioning: Run frequency

Increases/decreases the number of runs teammates will make.

Positioning: Line height

Specifies how high/low the defensive line will positions themselves for a team.

Positioning: Line Length

Specifies how stretched or compact the team will try to keep their line for the pitch.

Positioning: Line width

Specifies how stretched or compact the team will try to keep for the width of the pitch.

Positioning: Fullback Positioning

Increases/decreases how far the teams fullbacks will push forward.

Power bar

Modifies how quickly/slowly the power bar fills up when you request any type of pass or shot.

It will take a while for people to find the sweet spots for settings, and everyones will probably be pretty different, but we’ll gather a list of what people are using post launch.

^ Basically everything that @USofAndy said

Wow, amazed at the amount of negative responses to what is nothing less than a great move by EA to allow us to further customize single-player and offline matches.

If you don’t like the idea of sliders (and by the way, what do you think difficulty settings and controller settings are) then DON”T USE THEM. And they have absolutely nothing to do with online, never will, and ARE NOT exploitable.

  • dude dudette

Come on EA. These should be tactical options.
    Positioning: Marking
    Positioning: Run frequency
    Positioning: Line height
    Positioning: Line Length
    Positioning: Line width
    Positioning: Fullback Positioning

    these should be tactical options

  • Konsta_87

    @dude

Completely agreed. Can’t understand the reasoning behind not doing so. They wen’t trough the trouble to finally add some more depth to the tactical department, and this is how it’s done? So frusturating. Great feature implemented extremely poorly.

  • Erik

Aaah…now I finally understand what made the cpu turn my games into crappy experiences. CPU formerly had acess to these sliders and it adjusted them to its own mood. This is why sometimes I had to play games – that I expected to be just like the last one – where the ball, passing, players responsiveness – specially cpu’s – where a band of drugged chimpanzes running for Caesar.

So.. List of Accomplishments for the Vp next? :D

  • Krash

    @dude @Konsta_87

That’s the point I was trying to make a few pages back. I really really hope someone from EA explains the difference between these tactical sliders and the tactics of Team Management. Does it mean when going online Team Management will become useless since the offline sliders decides things like positioning, runs, back line, etc.?

    We want answers, EA!

  • Nick

I remember a thread from FIFA forum by one of the gamechanger. Hahaha these sliders were taken exactly from that list except that list has double the amount of slider ideas. So what does that mean? EA will keep growing the list of sliders going forward!!!! And I already know what they willl be (kinda) :) Thanks to you guys!

  • Jee

these are not replacing team management, these affect the general gameplay, meaning if you find yourself wishing players made more runs (in general- meaning with all teams not just your CM team), then you can adjust that slider…. and again as has been mentioned sooo many times, this is going to be default for online.

meaning if you decided to max out the slider for player runs, well guess what online, it will be back to default, offline you will have those extra runs but online you wont

  • Nick

Guys don’t get confused with tactical setting and sliders. You should think of sliders as more of GLOBAL Setting.

Once global set up is done, you then adjust each team’s tactics to give more flavour to each team style.

  • shaunymullen

sounds good, least you have the choce to edit the player movements and other good stuff to ur liking well done

  • Rodrigo

Nick… dude, those sliders just dont fit, they should be tactical sliders.

Why should we change the way the teams are going to behave like this instead of doing it to each specific case? For example pick this slider: ‘Positioning: Line Length’, not all teams are going to play well with the same line lenght (at least I don’t expect them to), so why should I apply one setting to everybody?.

  • Krash

Yeah, where’s the source that says these sliders are Global? I personally don’t think they’re global on all teams, they’ll likely be applied only to the team you’re playing with as Rodrigo said.

  • Krash

Wait, actually some of them sound Global, while others don’t.

  • Kevin

Wow, I have been waiting forever for these to hit fifa. Can’t wait to test them out!

  • Nick

Actually I thought about it. You guys are right. Positioning should be per team basis. Hence they are tactical sliders for each team. That makes perfect sense now. Sorry!

  • Florin

Well done!!!I Injury Frequency / Severity , Goalkeeper Ability and Power Bar are the sliders I like the most!

  • Nick

Hey guys, since this is the way EA setup for us… I’m just trying to make the best sense out of it. So just bear with me.

I think the tactical sliders are set to each team when the game is released. Just as previous FIFA did.

Now consider this: Say If Team A has width of 70 and the team B has width of 50. These teams now have difference of 20 and so team individualities are defined here. Also note that they share a same reference point to define the width.

But what if I’m really not happy with what width 70 and width 50 looks like. (meaning I’m not happy how EA represented the way 70 width should looks like on the pitch. This means natually I’m not happy how 50 width looks like neither then!) Only thing I’m satisfied is how these two teams are different at the moment. Still following me? ^^

So as I’m trying to adjust how width 70 should look….(or 60 should look… or 50 should look…etc), I don’t wanna have to change each individual teams’ width for all clubs. I should be able to simply change the refence point therefore 70 will now look as wide as I want it to be….and 50 will also automatically change to this reference point. (The diffence between them is still retained this way.)

So in a way, I think the positional sliders are still global settings of the these “reference point”.

Sorry for the long post. Hope you got what I’m trying to say :)

  • Nick

Now that I put it this way, this concept is no different than say Sprint speed. If Ronaldo has speed of 85 and Bale has 90… just for the argument sake, I’m happy with this individuality EA put it.

But what if I’m not happy how 90 is way too fast in this game? I have to adjust the sprint speed slider. This will reduce Bale’s top speed as well has Ronaldo’s top speed.

Slider was able to let me adjust everything in one shot. But if I really thought Ronaldo should be at the same speed as Bale. I have to change individual’s setting per each player…. I believe the same goes for the postional settings….

  • Mark

So if you use manual or semi-manual passing, can you still use sliders to improve your accuracy, or will that switch it to assisted?
