FIFA 12: The Demos

It’s going to be a busy day no doubt. Social networking sites and the internet in general will be buzzing as the majority of FIFA fans get their hands on FIFA 12 for the first time.

We’ll be using this post to announce when things go live. Currently the expected times, according to EASPORTSFIFA are as follows:

PS3 (N America) – 13th Sept *from* 2pm PST

PS3 (EU) – 14 Sept *from* 5pm

The PC demo was expected from 10am, but it’s already live. Link below. It’s from the EA website and it’s the one I’ve downloaded.

*UPDATE* The 360 demo is now live on the dashboard. Access it as follows: Game Marketplace -> Titles A-Z -> E – EA Sports FIFA 12

*UPDATE 2* A few users have experienced issues with installing the FIFA 12 demo with FIFA 11 still installed on their machines. The simplest fix is to back up your FIFA 11 saves, uninstall, then install the demo. Thanks to JC in the comments for his help figuring that out.

*UPDATE 3* There have also been issues with downloads stopping at 99%. One fix we’ve seen is to turn your XBOX off, then try to download again, it should skip to 98% then straight to 100%. Thanks to BlueOggster from the FVPA for that. Let us know if it works for you.

Also the new tactical defending, i know alot of people found this a problem so did i…i thought changing the buttons arounds give you a better feeling of the game…im on ps3 so what i done was switch the tackle button(square) with the contain button (x), then switch the contain button (now square) with the team mate contain button (R2 or L2 i believe)…now tackle is (x) and team mate contain is (square) pretty much to how it was over the years…it feels better i think…contain does nothing for me, every time i use it i get skipped easily so i use jockey instead…works much better for me…try it see how you feel

    @Tobbee:

yeah exactly!! every team is like barca in the game. thats not fun!! i want to have SOME comfortable matches, not have to be at 100% every match!!

against dortmund i dont expect them to be passing with super accuracy and their players doing skills or their defenders being better and stronger then Dzeko or tevez.

FIFA is not a football sim.. its a game made hard by not using logic but game mechanics. i can win but its just not fun to play since the AI is so boring.

also please dont compare real matched to FIFA!! real match lasts 90mins so passing around makes sense.. when you only have 5 mins a half it doesnt (in full game, not demo)

Well, the A.I plays the same, and you’ve noticed this how ? Because you play the same ?

I really don’t get what you all see so special in PES AI. Enlighten me…

The AI is scripted, because you can’t beat ? Riiiiight…
You’re saying this like PES fabolous AI is thinking by itself. BS!
I don’t see what’s so “scripted about FIFAs AI”. Well of course if you play every match the same, the AI plays the same.

  • Keloo

@diblis so you are complaining because the AI has you focused every match, didn’t you all want that ? The AI to be good. I really can’t understand you. You want the AI to be good, but to make enough mistakes so you can beat it. Riiight

What’s a “football sim” anyway ? If this is not a “football sim”. Enlighten me master…

And how can the AI be scripted, when it plays according to how you play. It doesn’t play the same, only if you play the same.

If the cpu team defends better, attacks better, how the hell can the AI be bad, and boring. If the AI lets me score 3-4 goals every match, from the same position, that’s boring and unchallenging.

If the AI doesn’t let me score, and it passes and attacks well, it’s more challenging, how the fuck can be boring and scripted ?

It’s not like a shooter, where the mobs got more damage and more health, here depending on what difficulty you choose it plays better, defends better, passes better, and shoots.

You have to stop it, and speculate its weaknesses.

My main issue with the AI right now is the fact that they never make mistakes. I dread giving the ball away as I will not get it back for quite some time. I want the AI to be a challenge, but not so much that it never makes a bad pass or a bad turn or never misses a tackle. That is the issue with the AI right now….and without any ability to put any pressure on the AI it make for a game of nothing but chasing the ball around the pitch hoping the AI makes a bad pass.

  • thorgrimm

Are the sliders not for adding more ‘fault’ in the computer too?
so what’s the problem then…in the full game you can change the perfectness
    ^^

The off the ball movement isn’t that good in Fifa and that’s what they need to work on. You get wingbacks making overlapping runs, but you need to see more movement from your midfield players. Guys like Cesc should be be looking for open spaces to exploit and making runs from deep into the box like he does in real life.

Also, I know the pressure in Fifa 11 was silly, but the CPU seem to stand off you a bit too much. I was playing Barca and if you’ve seen Barca play when they’re without the ball, they press hard and in numbers. In the demo, they’re not as aggressive and they should be. With the close control and new defensive tackling system, you should be able to deal with teams that press hard.

The AI just isn’t there yet. I know it’s a taboo word, but in PES 12, you see great runs being made and players making themselves available for a pass or darting into open space. You react to your team mates and play off the movement they make, which is a nice touch.

The Fifa demo isn’t bad but it isn’t a huge step forwards either. They need to really push the boundaries with the AI.

For me it’s challenging, I’ve been playing against barca a lot and I’m losing a lot of matches. Trying to learn the tactical defending. But in match they fail too, I’m tired to see D.Alves unable to reach long balls given by Xavi, Piqué being left behing by Aguero and Villa losing balls trying to dribble the defence(but it does not happen frequently).

  • Keloo

I’ve seen the AI making a bad pass a few times now, so I really don’t know what you’re talking about, but it’s not that perfect.

    Just tried the demo.
I must say that I like the changes in FIFA 12 (which is good, since I already preordered the game :)

I play on Legendary an even at that level the AI makes a bad pass sometimes. People that don’t like this and that, should wait for the full version were SLIDERS are in – and then adjust if you think the wingbacks attacks too little or if the AI is pressing too little etc.

Imo. FIFA 12 is beyond everything else! Period! Besides it’s a demo. Come on guys…

Ive just recently played the demo, and i think the games alright, it didnt make me go wow amazing, the small animations they have added here and there are good, the games looks good…i dont know if its just me but for some reason it feels like the AI can move the ball quicker than i can…i dont feel like theres anything great about the AI i feel like they have made it harder for me to play the way i want to, rather than improving the AI it self…i know the sort of moves i want to make i would be more impressed if i could do them and the AI shut it down, but i feel like the games holding me back so the AI looks impressive, because their attack is very standard not difficult to defend considering i was playing on legendary but when i attack my players just dont look like they wanna do anything, when they attack all of a sudden they have 4 messi’s upfront…thats how i feel anyway

Still love the demo even after 5 days. lol I can’t believe people are saying every team plays like Barcelona. Wrong. Every team actually passes the ball around where as in every FIFA before 12 the AI would just run up field make 2 or 3 passes and shoot at the first opportunity. In 12 I have watched the AI make passes to pull my defense out of position and then kill me for it. Its so good to see! Also the AI do make bad passes. I think some people really are just mad that they can’t dominate the AI this yr. Can’t whole the ball for 70% of the match, or make 27 tackles while the AI only makes 6 or complete 99% of your passes. And score 8 goals every time you play Barcelona. Ive been playing on World Class and its fantastic. I really have to think about making the best pass and be intentional about holding possession and when to make a tackle.

    Latest Demo feedback.

The Mrs gave me a surprise this morning, no, not that, she took the kids out for the whole day. It gave me some extra time for the demo. 2 nights previous I’d smashed it for several hours but at the end of the night all my frustrations I’d had with fifa11 had come back to, well frustrate me.
But today, well something strange happened. Something wonderfully strange. The demo got good, and I mean really good. Something just clicked. I’d booted the demo up and took it upon myself to try and approach the game with a fresh impetus. Coz my old way of playing just wasn’t working.
So what did I change? Well I stopped using the ‘contain’ method of defending and just used player positioning and good old fashioned jockey. And omg it made a difference. I really focused on covering AI runs and closing down their passing options. I used patience in possession, didn’t worry about trying to win the matches. The result, well the AI was forced into making much more passing mistakes turning over possession to me more frequently. This opened the game up immensely. Also I improved my timings of tackles. As Rio Ferdinand says, stay on your feet. This should be Fifa12′s motto for this year. Where I was always losing in the possession % I’m now more often than not enjoy 60+% at the end of the match. And I’ve improved my forward play. I even won a few games 2-0, which is a big turn around from what results I was getting previous. And the best thing of all, I was having fun, scoring some killer good goals. There are still lots to hate about the AI, I still believe it’s FIFA’s Achilles heel. An absolute must for a total overhaul. But I’m feeling a lot more positive for this game now. With longer halves and lesser skilled teams it can be great. Roll on the 30th!!!

the only bad point with the new tactical defending is , its ok to contain in midfield and even around the 18yd box but when the other team gets into the box the contain button should change back to the closing down button or, a ,button of old . at leased this way you could have nice build up play with more freedom around the pitch but when you are defending in the box where making sliding challengers are the last thing to do you could get close and get in a challenge because at the min the Ai can take it round you and pass it about in the box with ease you can even get a standing tackle in and you still dont get the ball
