FIFA 13 – Attacking Intelligence

Another video like this one, looking at attacking intelligence.

Nick Channon is in the spotlight once again explaining the difference run types you’ll be no doubt seeing now as you play the demo.

    @Tom Oh yeah, I’m seeing it now. I had my FIFA 12 slider settings w/ run frequency cranked up – put user & cpu back to 50 & wow, awesome. Playing w/ Dortmund & Kuba from the edge of the box curled a inside a couple of times (staying onside), not from a counter just possession, not so much a run as just simple movement, fantastic. Scored a goal on one of them, the other time I got caught just admiring it :) Killer.

    That’s what I’ve noticed. As the title suggests, it only focuses on attacking AI and stuff in the final third. It’s disappointing because there rarely feels like there is an intense midfield battle in Fifa. Teams like Barca who have a high pressure game should be trying to harry you off the ball. It’s as if the team tactics have no real effect on the way they play. They will have to work on that.

    My main issues with the past 3 years of Fifa has been defence AI and this year is no different. Why is the CPU team able to get midfielders back behind the ball and sit in front of the defence yet my midfielders (AI controlled) dont both getting back into defensive positions and will just hang around the midfield area?

    I counted 10 players behind the ball when i was attacking, When they attack im lucky to have 5 or 6.

  • Hate Nerds

    ^^ “dont bother getting back”

  • PnG

    Defensive intelligence will come next year. This is all about attacking.

    @PnG

    Well it’s way better then last year when every team played like Barca, only pass-pass-pass, it kept the ball without doing anything with it.

    Now it’s plays much more opened, much more dynamic and overall is a better much more enjoyable experience on legendary or world class then the frustratingly boring one we had last year.

    So this is my take away from FIFA 13 Demo (Xbox 360).

    The players will make the run……….Are you brave enough to make the pass?

  • Hate Nerds

    @PnG

    Defensive AI must already be programmed into it if CPU teams get men behind the ball but for whatever reason it just does not happen with own team.

  • Thomas

    Just an off topic question here, but can anyone explain to me why the distance a player runs in-game, is totally out of whack? By half-time a player has usually covered about 1000 yards

  • dj who kid

    Played a few games with the demo last night, and the through ball inteligence isstill off to me. I can’t pass it to the winger who is wide open, instead the AI passes it to the CF who is double teamed!!!

    This happened multiple times, no matter what power or angle I put on the pass.

    what @king23james said:

    FSB, please consider reporting this lack of any midfield pressure back to EA. I can at times just hold possession for an eternity without any pressure by even high pressure teams like dortmund, anyone who watches them play, knows they fly around chasing on defense constantly. Even barca in this game barely pressure. the same goes for the midfield when im defending, they are just not really aggressively involved. I feel people complained about pressure in fifa 11, so they took it out all together to make it easier for people to feel they’re holding possession. but you can actually hold possession in fifa 11, if you know the fundamentals of football.

    please read and consider what this person said, I can’t agree more, I’m sure many people are feeling the same way.

    “I saw my AI team mates Attacking Intelligence and it was really cool. Well done EA!

    But the problem of AI defence in FIFA12 still remains. Since the introduction of tactical defence, the AI defenders don’t apply pressure around midfield. All they do is contain from far distance. They never attempt to take ball away from me until I dribble to final 30 yard. (This is very consistent by AI hence the game has less foul now)

    Tried increasing difficulty and slider adjustments but problem still remains.

    Last year during my CM, I got so turned off by this – I was up by 1 and keeping the ball in my own half for the last 10 minutes. I wasn’t doing any fancy pass work like Barca. The CPU just never made any real attempt to steal the ball. Game just ended like that every time I tried this.

    It’s terrible the game changed this way. I enjoy tactical defending from user control perspective but it really hurts to see AI’s defensive philosophy getting ruined.”

    just watch any dortmund game or barcelona game or any team for that matter, and see how pressure is absolutely missing. Fifa 11 actually had proper pressure, people just didn’t know how to deal with it, so they took it out. this is me playing CPU in fifa 11.

    My opinion on why the midfield battle and pressure plays with such minimum pressure. Listen to my commentary.

    @brendan awesome. Enjoy :)

    Attacking A.I. and 1st touch are both good additions that hit the nail and I like them.

    Unfortunately I’m unhappy with several things:
    - No midfield play, end-to-end open games all the time.
    - Heavy lock-on contextual dribbling that ruins dribbling fluidity, it feels more on-rail. Terrible addition.
    - Too much ball bobbles for ground passes or for deflection off bodies.
    - Passing feels lethargic and tired (it’s not slow, it’s not fast, it just doesn’t feel right).
    - Refereeing is still very bad! Had too many BS penalty kicks.

    Looks like I’m leaning towards not buying the game. Also, PES 2013 demo plays much better, first time I say this this gen.

  • Hate Nerds

    After switching the camera view from Tele Broadcast to Tele and then zooming out and adding a bit of height it has transformed this game for me. Absolutely loving it now. Some of the goal’s i’ve been scoring have been incredible.

    Easily the best Fifa to date! And yesterday i reckoned PES just pipped it on gameplay…..well not anymore. Well done EA!

    Hi fellas and FSB game changers. I want to apologize to you for derailing Tom’s topic by talking about defensive nature of the game. (Truly sorry Tom)

    @Lovismith: I just watched your FIFA11 gameplay video and it almost brought tears to my eyes. AI opponents were chasing your ball handlers at full speed as soon as the whistle blew… it looked so realistic and suspenseful. Wow just how much I miss that game!

    I followed your link to an old FSB article by David. I didn’t know the whole history of this game changing event. So this is what community wanted… tailor more for casual gamers? I am in such a shock at the moment because patching and adjustment regarding the defensive pressure will not likely to come anymore. At least not this year.

    Oh dudes, I feel so hopeless… there is no longer a place for an old FIFA head like me. So this is the year I stop purchasing my favourite game. well… just… Dang it.

  • Myself

    From what I remember people were complaining alot even here about the high pressure that the CPU was putting towards the player, this was for the past 2 years.

    So I guess they’ve fixed it.

    This is why games are subjective and so relative. Not everyone has the same expectations from a game. If you want to “fix” something for some people you’ll please that group, but at the same time can unplease other players.

    Well that’s life, if these changes bother you so much, move on and do something else, accept that there’s nothing you can do about it, and the things that you hate might make others joy.

  • Benjamin

    Please make the gameplay speed slower!

    Even on slow it is too fast!

    @Lovismith

    Watched your video and really liked it. Excellent points!

    FIX the defending AI as well and i will be satisfied.
