FIFA 13 – iOS Details

At the recent EA Summer Showcase there was an iOS presentation, which we’ve only just got round to watching.

There were a few new details revealed about the iOS version including online multiplayer via Origin.

On top of that, there’s some new inputs. When attacking you’ll now get a dedicated button for skill moves which should be a bit easier to use than the double tap from FIFA 12, but it’s still not known whether you’ll be able to use the virtual stick input to have a say in what trick you do, in FIFA 12 it’s completely random. When defending you’ll now have a call 2nd defender button.

You’ll also be able to swipe to change team mentality between neutral, attacking and defensive and you;’ll also be able to change formations and make subs without breaking into a menu.

Perhaps the biggest change though is the ability to upload replays directly to YouTube. Which is pretty fucking cool. Whether EA are using iOS to test the idea and work out the kinks before putting it into console versions next year or whether it’s just something they’ve been keeping close to their chests for FIFA 13 we don’t know, but the main thing is it’s coming to FIFA in some form, which means EA are hopefully preparing to scrap the grainy uploads on the EA Sports Football website. Yay!

You can watch the full presentation below.

I actually enjoyed Fifa12 on the iPad. It really helped my long flight for my jollies go quicker. This sounds good. I will be getting it again.

  • Tom Mills

@EFC Me too. It’s a pretty decent game.

  • EFC

has there been any info on price? If i remember rightly, i think i paid about £8 for it on App store.

  • Tom Mills

@EFC £8? Can’t have been that much. I bought the iPhone version for about £3 and got the iPad version when it went on sale for 69p

got a question will the kinect version be able to play against the “normal” version ?? although the ps3 version with the ps3 voice controll ?? because you would have an advantage .. in example the substitutions

Load of bollocks, phones should only have arcade/puzzle type games – maybe even a point-and-click adventure. I got Fifa and also GTA III for my android, true they run smoothly and look decent but it’s unplayable and a cheap way to make money. Always find myself back to Tower Defense games.

  • Tom Mills

@Seanpaul I’ve not found FIFA to be unplayable on my iPhone or iPad. Nor GTA. Nor many other big games that haven’t been specifically designed for touch devices.

    That gameplay video looks horrible.
Whats with the bright lime green table cloth looking turf?
and there is a 3 mile gap between the edge of the pitch and the stands, just blank green unfilled space.
do EA just fling out touch device versions because they can!? as there doesnt appear to have been much effort put into it.

  • Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory

I think every developer would do the same for their IPs on touch device, handheld device & console. It’s just strip down of their old titles. Generally the user of these kind of devices are casual gamer and not really prefer something too complex. So, this is just like an attempt for extra revenue for their bigger project. But things can be different if the publisher make handheld version as one of their top priority, and more budget to begin with. Nonetheless, it’s still risky investment.

@ tom it could of been £6 not to sure, but i did get it before Xmas last year. Come to think of it, it could of been FM that was that price lol.

  • joost

I hope Fifa 13 on PS3 doesn’t look like this, grass and shit looks a bit dumb. Also, I don’t think it’s a good idea to show who is standing offside, it makes it less challenging. But we’ll see.

  • abu

Yeah it probably was FM which cost you 8 pounds. FIFA was always a max 5.99 IRC. And I agree with seanpaul that FIFA is unplayable on a a touch screen.

  • lelly

The best way to play FIFA on the move is on the PS VITA, im not a Fifa fan im far from it but ill probably get it on the VITA and PES on the console, i can play Fifa in short burts because the AI is to robitic and predictable in Fifa so games become like replays, the handhelds arent to much different but its more acceptable there, any news on the PS VITA version, will there be any cross-play features?

  • Seanpaul Smillie

@Tom Yeah, but you’re paid to say that! Haha, kidding on. Erm, aye it’s just personal preference tbh, I find the touch-screen controls hard to actually use which is why I stick with arcade/puzzle games.

  • Tom Mills

@EFC Yeah FM is around that price.

  • Tom Mills

@Lelly not heard anything about cross play. Or the Vita version at all actually.

  • Tom Mills

@seanpaul GTA definitely took some adjusting but i find FIFA ok. unless you try to use the gamepad app. That is impossible.

  • Edward

have they said anything about what generation devices it will support?

(i.e. ipod touch 3g or above ; iphone 3gs or above; ios 5 or above)
