FIFA 13 Named Best Sports Game At E3

As they do every year, the 34 voting publications that make up the Game Critics Award panel have got their heads together and decided that FIFA 13 was the Best Sports Game on show at E3 2012.

FIFA 13 then has successfully defended FIFA 12′s title which picked up the Best Sports game award in 2011 – win. The coveted “Best of Show” award went to Naughty Dog’s – The Last Of Us which I’m sure you’ll agree is a well deserved winner.

So a good start to FIFA 13′s life in front of the press then and if you’re interested you can see all of E3 2012′s winners right here.

    The award did not get giving out because Fifa was the best simulation it was due to being the best sports game!

    I don’t believe this one bit, PES 2013 took out the best sports title for E3 some two weeks ago, why is this article emerging now!

    @christo that’s just for one site.

    The man that awarded PES best sports title was Daniel Dawkins who is the PSM3 editor, PSM3 are known PES diehards and their magazine gets the PES exclusive every year ;)

    The Demo for PES is out very soon so we’l be able to see how amazing this game is supposed to be. My money is on it still being very dated both in looks and sounds and gameplay wont be as good as Pes 1-6.

    Yawn

  • One for the money

    It would be interesting to see how the rest of the world consider either PES or Fifa the award for best title this year… as the Game Critics Award panel are exclusivly from north american publishers only.. having said this.. I’m sure we would agree that North america are very pro Fifa.. and it is crucial for Fifa to do well in North America to actually survive.. that’s why they spend so much money on advertising and marketing the brand in North America…because outside of north america and Australia PES is alot bigger than Fifa.

    @Pando,

    The elements I was talking about are elements having to do more with educational values. Everything about FIFA is exemplary of what the sport should be like. For example, players behave with good manners, commentary is done well, in a very professional manner. Also the game encourages you to make good decisions for example, in manager mode it has you dealing with player’s egos which adds another dimension to managing your team. Also it always brings interesting innovations like the player impact engine, tactical defending which teaches you how to be patient etc. etc. etc. A sports game is not only judged based on the simulation aspects.

    @David

    Excuse me, but every sport game have the same elements. I don’t see any unique feature in what you mentioned. FIFA is just a footy game that tries to replicate the real thing. Dealing with player’s ego is a part of the simulation, since it’s like that in reality. And every other sport game tries to replicate it. Same goes for commentary. Every sport game tries to “encourage you to make good decisions”. There would be no point in encouraging shitty decisions, since your aim is to play the sport and try to enjoy it and win. Impact engine is not a innovation for sport games. Euphoria engine was already used in other games, and is just the same a simpact engine. It’s true that it was something new for footy games. But it’s all about tech, changes only a little the gameplay and was introduced last year, not this year. Anyway, the elements you talked about are there in all the other sport games such as NBA2k12/13, PES 12/13 excetera… I still think there were better sport games at E3.

    Alot of sports games I play try to please you more than anything. Most sports titles I’ve played always try to satisfy all of your sporting ambitions and to make it possible to fulfill your fantasies. In FIFA I feel that your decisions really payoff and it truly encourages you to think very maturely. Other sports titles I’ve played don’t really focus on things like that, they just seem to want to give you more tools and help you live out your dreams. FIFA hasn’t necessarily got it all correct but it’s probably got some of those elements better than other sports titles, FIFA just needs to work on the on-pitch simulation aspects of the game. But when judges rate a game, I imagine there would be alot of departments and elements of the game to evaluate.

    @ Pando

    What sports games use the Euphoria engine? As far as im aware the only one was Backbreaker which was a MASSIVE failure both in gameplay, sales and review scores. Only thing good about it was the animations and graphics.

    You keep going on about NBA2k…The fans of NBA2k have been moaning about it all year due to not being simulation enough with it being very arcadey now and how 12 and 11 were massive steps back, NBA Live is awful always has been this year will be no different, NCAA is a great game i’l give you that but Fifa’s level? No, Madden is good but not as good as NCAA which Fifa is better as i say, NHL has been on the up for a few years now and the last 2 games have been great but still not the pinnacle of the series, PES well we all know how bad PES has been for years now the last good one was PES 6 on 360 & PS2, PES 2013 looks like a game from 2007 you cannot seriously expect PES to get game of the show when it’s soooooooooo far behind the other games in the show.

    Only one winner – FIFA 13

    BOSH!

    its been the sameshit for the past 10 years. FIFa much like all of EA sports games get all the hype, but their games are terrible and really arcade ish. PES has been the better game since i can remember. much more realistic too

  • Gus

    the bottom line is EA has all the power for licensing. SO they will always sell more. Wich is sad cause they make the worst most arcadish sports games. Seems like no one cares anymore about actual simulation, realistic game feel anymore how pES has always had over fifa. Just like nba 2k over ea nba live. just like nfl 2k, over madden, just like nhl 2k, over ea’s nhl. IF the 2k series, and konami/pes had the licensing power EA had. EA and all their sports games wouldnt even exist cause no game would compare to how great their games are. all that is missing is licensing and marketing power

  • fuk the h8ers

    @ gus…….. lol…. pes is an arcade game. just look at it and how it plays. fifa however is a simulator/more realistic. if pes was the better game, it would’ve won the prize. noob. GGMU!!!!
