FIFA 13 Playtest – We Want Your Questions

Gentlemen, Team FSB are off to EA Guildford again this Friday (1st June) to spend a whole day with FIFA 13 and this time we want to take your questions with us!

We want you guys to fill the comments of the post to the brim with any questions you might have about FIFA 13′s new gameplay features and anything you want us to look out for both old and new. The only thing we ask is that you keep it 100%, on the pitch gameplay focused as we won’t be able to answer anything license or game mode related.

This feature has worked really well over the last few years and we think it’s really important you guys do have a voice at these events, so speak your mind and we’ll pull it all together in a big FSB community Q&A after the playtest.

Quite simply, what do you guys want to know about most?

    How different are manual controls from FIFA12?

    Are there more options in the controls?

    Questions about fixes of 12s defending of lobbed through balls.

    1. do players still automatically (with no control input) try to stretch for a touch even tho they can never reach it.

    2. if the ball is at head height they would try to take it on their chest automatically instead of letting it drop resulting in loss of possession and a 1 on 1 has this changed?

    3. Re there more options for quickly clearing balls comming at chest or head height?

    4. Theres a lot of zig zaging attackers in online matches. you could only really defend by backing off. Is there any fatigue penalty this year for all these changes in direction?

    5. Making a standing tackle resulted in a huge loss of momentum (almost as much as a slide) has this been tuned?

    6. Tackling from behind seem to be too common and unrealistic… especially with AI. Fixed?

    7. Losing a header from a goal kick often resulted in the ball going straight back up the pitch to the opposition front 2 with your defenders out of position. Sorted?

    8. First time shots from a low sideways pass sometimes resulted in massively over hit shots that went in to the crowd even with very slight taps on the shoot button. I noticed this mostly on clubs. is there a reason… or better way to control this now?

    9. Blocking players off the ball was a bit of an issue… any improvements… can players navigate there way around other players better now?

    will defending be better? will ai interact with our play to have a better fluidity in defence? and will jockeing be improved? as not all players depends on the tactical defending’s press button! which brings me to my next question will presing be also improved as the opposition could just move one way use some skills and be on thier way to goal and especially in the wings where it is really hard to get the using press button or even block it!!

    Please!!!! Ask if they can implement some kind of European qualification once you win or finish 2nd/3rd in the leagues (single player), would be a wonderful thing for the lasting appeal of the game!

    1) Are players better at positioning, when the ball drops from high up?
    2) Are players better at figuring out who a through ball is for?

    Do ‘keepers lose any footballing intelligence as soon as they’re 5 yards from the goal?

    When you bring your keeper out to incercept a player, then let go of the ‘keeper rush’ button, does the keeper RUN back to goal, making sure to cover the space between attacker and net?

    Currently, if you bring the keeper out, and then let go of the button, or even keep it held while an attacker is bearing down towards the goal, the keeper jogs towards the attacker with the ball, and FOLLOWS him! Rather than trying to block the attacker’s route to goal.

    This may just apply to me, because I bring the goalie out extensively and fairly far out of his net..

    Has there been any change in miskicks/air-shots? As frustrating as they are, it adds realism and realistic chaos to a game. A goalmouth scramble with a completely missed volley, a clearance under pressure which slices straight up and back down into the box etc.

    Perhaps that will all be part of the first touch improvements?

    Also, a significant part of football with FIFA has never managed to get right, is when players aren’t moving.
    Often, a player will stop dead with the ball, maybe rolling it around under their foot to position for a potential pass. Or A defender will put their foot on the ball for a couple of seconds while the team regroups. Strikers holding up possession while they wait for support etc.

    Or are players still jogging/sprinting for the entirety of a game, like no real-life game of football that’s ever been played?

    Do more players run/pass/jump like their real-life counterparts? Ashley Young’s hunched-over run, Toure’s seemingly effortless powerful shooting, Tim Howards’ use of his legs to save close shots, Paul Scholes’ ball rolling/fake-passing thing he always does in midfield while he’s working out where to pass. etc…

    Three less important shiny things:

    Graphics overall – are they improved? The screenshots at the moment all seem to be a little too shallow depth-of-field/contrasty…

    Better hair/cloth movement – no plastic hair?

    Do the emotions/mouth movements look aesthetically and contextually realistic now?

    is there a noise/sound when the ball hits de boarding in the game?
    is the pitch changing while players do a sliding?

    Are there loads of new trainers? Can Zidane/Ronaldo – the legend players – be purchased like in old PES games?

    It has been said that the referees have a better understanding of push-pull, do they have a better understanding of slide tackles as well?

    How about having the vibration on at all times or an option to on off so that when you pass it, shoot, push, pull or anything you can actually feel the players movements

    Any Change in manual controls? Through passes were not balanced in fifa 12

    Any Improvement in long shoot?

    Has been reduced efficiency of RB+Shots on the far corner??

    How is the good does the AI mark now? Is it still easy for your teammates to lose their man?

    Have the ball physics changed? Can we knuckle the ball?

    Does the a.i still auto-tackle? Do they still have the “reading your control input” feel?

    Have the finesse shots been toned down? AKA finesse sweetspots?

    Do manual controls allow those really soft lay off passes now?

    Has the lighting changed?

    Is the stamina model actually realistic this year?

    Will off the ball fouls be called?

    When playing a 1-2 pass does every player still stick his arm out after passing?

    Do referees still choose to call the foul instead of giving a goal?

    Has assisted been toned down? Is it more possible to miss shots, over hit passes, or under hit passes?

    Is the first touch engine muddled down towards casual gamers? How does it react under high pressure tactics?

    Will players now walk on the pitch?

    Any new skill moves?

    Has the rainy and snowy weather had some changes?

    Has the default d-pad team tactics changed? (Pressing up for positioning, and down for tactics) What about team mentality? (Left and right)

    Are there any new camera angles?

    Has the team management screen changed?

    Can people still get away with not playing with a midfield?(Defending deep, and 3 forwards up top just waiting for the counter)

    That’s about all I can think of.

    the career mode is more interactive now like nba 2k 11 or pes 2012,and they put new world championships like libertadores,fifa world club cup?,please put these championships i know libertadores licenses is from pes 2012 but create a generic for the latins americans teams on the career mode and a fifa world club cup for the winners from libertadores and champions cup (uefa champions league).
    the crowd ,the cameramens,policemens,the manager and the substitutes have a better animation?

    Defensive man marking, Pro Club and the Atmosphere are the big three improvments needed. What has Fifa 13 done to address issues in these areas?
