GamesMaster FIFA 13 Review – 91%

The first FIFA 13 review has hit the internet and as always it’s from GamesMaster magazine this time awarding a score of 91%.

If you’re interested GamesMater rated FIFA 12 and FIFA 11 at 94% but they have described FIFA 13 as “the best football on console that there’s ever been” which sounds like it’s pretty good to me. Makes the score drop seem a little odd though I’m sure you’ll agree…

GM: “It’s exhilarating to play in multiplayer, and looks fabulous when you use any of the big boys”

    Yes review scores can go up and down for annual releases but forget the score, what about the “best football game on any console” statement? Surely thats biggest point of contention?

    If that is the case (not saying it isn’t) but the score has to more than 94%?k

    Not really, time moves on…maybe if they had improved the graphics some more it could of warranted a higher score. I also wonder if PES has scored higher than 91% on gamesmaster when it used to be good? If it did it does not mean they now still think it’s better than Fifa 13.

    If review sites/magazines had to give a higher score than previous games if they thought it was better we would have ALOT of 100% games.

    I’m guessing GamesMaster are afraid to give anything less than 90% because they wouldn’t get the game this early to review next year if they did.

    Well, I do actually have faith in FIFA13, a little, what with Humber having had more influence in the game, perhaps? You know, gameplay wise against the CPU, that it could actually be fun this time. (WC10 was fun)
    What was his title again? Some kind of overseer, director?

    Every FIFA is rated “the best ever!!!” until the rest of us pay $60.00 only to say “WTF?!!!”. FIFA 14 is going to be given the same rating and the same response.

    This years score = (last years score / moores law) + (this years improvements)

    or

    91 = (94/2)+(44)

    You can still be the best football game with crap score (not saying FIFA deserves crap score) if your opponents decide to commit suicide by mixing pokemon with management mode.

    But seriously, FIFA has only one true competition and it usually ends up with 80 somewhat score so anything above 90 will place you in top 1st.

    I think the reason why FIFA 13 was rated at 91% and 12 was given a 94 was not because FIFA 12 is better than 13 but cause at least in the eyes of the reviewers FIFA 12 improved more drasctically from FIFA 11 than 13 did from 12. I think lots of variables come into play in these ratings decisions.

    You have to remember that the previous ratings are completely irrelevant. Fifa 13 is not compared to Fifa 12 when they rate it. It is based on the games own merit. As a result there is no guarantee the game will rate higher, even if it seems like he prefers it.

    You also have to bare in mind that it may not be the same reviewer either. In which case they probably rate things slightly different. If it is the same guy, he may have been expecting certain tweaks that didn’t happen and thus knocked points off.

    Either way, I never take into account a previous score in the series and compare it to the score of the new game. I’d love to see the same reviewer did a review on Fifa 12 now just to see if it would even score in the 90s now.

    I hate how games are reviewed with a simple number like 91/100. There should be different categories in the summary of the review, for example;

    Presentation, Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, Realism, etc, ect..

    Each of those categories should not have a number either, instead they should have like 5 different levels of how good they are. (Very Poor, Poor, Nothing Special, OK, Good, Very Good, Close to Perfection) and the final conclusion should be a paragraph of what the reviewer thinks, and not just finished with a number.

    My opinion anyway, can’t wait for FIFA13 :D JOIN THE CLU13!

    Hey lads long time lurker first time poster! I’m new to FIFA this year. Been a PES player for years. I loved FIFA 10 though, my fave of the lot. Didn’t like FIFA 11 that much and I only enjoyed FUT on FIFA 12 which IMO is an great game mode. I have actually played the demo for FIFA 13 at a hmv related games event and I found it good. The first touch is a nice addition and also the player runs do work as well as they have looked on the videos on YouTube.
    MY main gripe is the defending. It’s still too open and too easily broken down. It has improved but it’s not a new system. To describe it, it’s like most average centre halves are like David luiz on FUT 12 and good centre halves are like thiago silva! Just ramped up. I reckon after a few weeks, speed will still be main problem. Finesse shot has been nerfed too. Takes more skill or maybe that was just me! Looking forward to demo though. Not a 91% on gameplay though. Def not and that’s just my opinion. But then again the modes look good online so deserves points for that I suppose. And skill games are class

    Hey man thanks! I am indeed getting FIFA 13. I skipped FIFA 12 and only played 15 hours or so of Ultimate team. So i am looking forward ti fifa 13 bcuz i havnt played a fifa properly for a few years.I really liked the demo but the defensive issues are a big thing for me. The attack is still too powerful and repeating wing play and skill moves are too effective IMO. As for a demo comparison, In terms of pure gameplay, ignoring the modes and stuff, I preferred the PES 2nd demo for sheer fun and realism in terms of pace and actual feel of a real football match. Saying that FIFA is improved maybe to a FIFA 12.7. Pes is good this year but konami are their own worst enemy in terms of marketing!
