Podcast: Not Angry, Just Disappointed

This is certainly a podcast of two halves. It all starts off rather well with FIFA 11 iPhone, FIFA Manager 11 and FIFA 11 Ultimate Team all receiving pretty high praise from us but then it all goes down hill when we move on to the recent FIFA 11 patch. If you feel let down, disappointed, angry or even a little bit confused about the latest patch then this is the podcast for you.

We give our critical analysis of EA’s latest patch attempt and predictably the swear filter gets its biggest run out to date.

We’re not angry, just disappointed……..

    Nice cast guys – appreciated

Guys, firstly the Kevin Davies pic is great. Lol. Who knows what goes on in Capello’s head.
On FIFA 11, you were bang on. BANG ON! Loved your honesty about the patch Or shall I say what patch. Just seems this patch is a token gesture from EA. No disrespect to Lincoln & Montpellier but only a two people will find the updated kits useful. Have been going on to the EA forums and the amount of people that are unhappy is defo more than 50%. My gut feeling Is our next update will be FIFA 12.

Well good podcast and very honest regarding fifa11. I sold fifa11 after the first week as I knew EA would take the **** with the patch and I was right. Whilst I didn’t get all my money back I got most of it back thankfully.

I mean you only have to look at the replay theatre and match highlights. I mean they allow you five save slots when they could allow you access to your whole hard drive. Then they allow just 10 highlights and if you score late on it misses it off.

Whilst I agree EA are a huge company with many areas, if the fifa series starts to take a hit in sales it would be a major problem for EA as its probably their biggest franchise. It actually amazes me that they are neglecting their biggest seller, which to me is crazy business sense.

Also, a lot of the EA Sports side is taking a drop in sales, which means they have major problems. However, I think the monetary system is in collapse so we are all in trouble.

I won’t be able to bring myself to buy fifa12 as I know it will have all the same issues. Career mode is hilarious when you think they claim to have rebuilt it. So why does it have some of the same bugs as manager mode?

People know they are getting the same rehashed crap for the last couple of years and it has now worn thin and enough is enough. Entertainment means nothing as there are more important things in life than stupid games.

@Jubal C thanks mate, that picture is perhaps my favourite podcast image of all time lol

At the end of the day myself and Tom just want to play a great FIFA game like the rest of you guys. But this patch from communication to delivery has been a bit of a shambles and its really not on.

A company with so much money/resources should be putting out a patch that actually addresses all the problems with the game. Instead, we get a patch that in my eyes doesn’t change much of anything. Disappointed is an understatement.

You are right when you say that there is someone above the community managers who have decided that this is the information we receive. These people do not understand present day marketing. The community, the followers can be as important as a 60 second TV advert because the community are the salespeople of the brand. This is basically due to the internet and social media. Getting us on their side will lead the FIFA brand to bigger and better things. You just have to look at Apple as the perfect example. Sure the products are fantastic but people buy Apple because they know Apple cares about their products and design. FIFA is slowly becoming known as the greedy, money grabbing title. Sure it’s a great football game but if they don’t take care of the community then they will ultimately lose a lot of people as soon as the competitor steps it up.

They way their forum is organised, the lack of true, honest communication from the seller to the consumer, they way their podcast doesn’t tackle the core issues that hardcore gamers care about all add up to bad image of FIFA as a brand.

EA & FIFA really need to tackle this before it’s too late. They need to show their customers that they care about them and care about football.

I cant say I’m a massive gamer, just really a big football fan who has always played Pro. As a hardcore pro player for ten years, I switched over to Fifa 10 after being fed up with the dross konami offered. I would just like to say FIFA 11 is a different class, I love it. Online, career mode, the lot. Again maybe because I am a casual gamer, but all the Fifa moaners need to realise that compared to pes. This game is a feckin’ dream!!!!

    Hi guys!

Didnt have the time to listen to the podcast yet, but I just want to give you my two cents.

I’m pretty sure thatEA managed the whole FIFA 11 affair very badly, building expectations and delivery something that’s not exactly what we saw (or thought we saw) flourishing in its development days.

BUT (and its a big one) I felt very satisfied with the patch under the circunstances. I bought FIFA 11 just for the heaf to head online play and I like to play with all the settings but shooting on Manual. And before the patch I was unnable to enjoy the game. I’m brazilian, and it seens that every brazilian (but me) its a master on the annoying art of ping-pong passing.

Before the patch, ping-pong passing was very, very present. I’m not the best player in town, but I’m not bad neither. Even so, I was losing 8 in every 10 games. After months playing FIFA I was stuck on level 3 or 4.

After the patch, ping-pong passing is not extinguished, but its noticeable downplayed, and that worked great for me. I’m finally enjoying the game and that frustrating feeling of being cheated just because I like to play using a different style vanished.

So, yeah, the patch it’s not exactly the cure for all the plagues that most people hoped it was, But it worked in some ways.

Keep up the good work, lads!

    Cheers from Brazil!

    JM.

I dont understand this. FIFA Manager 11 is a horrible horrible game. Why do you try to pass it as good?

  • matt

I’d be fine with FIFA 11 if CM wasn’t so pathetic. To the poster who doesn’t like PES anymore, you don’t know what you’re missing mate. It’s got some big issues and has a massive learning curve but it’s depth, variety and commitment to realistic football fundamentals makes it worth playing. I’ve now completed a few seasons in CM, one post patch, and I can’t see this game lasting much longer. With one of the few features CM actually has, player growth, being such trash, there’s just not enough reason to keep playing. At least PES has a fully-featured ML.

Has anyone seen the patch and updates that NCAA Football and NHL get? NCAA has had three patches and four tuner pack updates! Maybe FIFA is more difficult to code but it leads the sports genre in sales, so there is absolutely no excuse for releasing such a shoddy product.

I’m sick and tired of feeling abused and exploited by EA. Next year may be the first time in years I won’t buy FIFA if PES improves on this year. I really hope you guys at FSB properly convey how displeased the fanbase is at the moment. I really hope Rutter et al are not proud of the state of FIFA and how they treat their fans.

  • anthonyOA

Thanks for the iphone review. I was on the edge of buying this. I might go for it.

Fifa11 console has been very luckluster this year. I really struggled to get into and stay in VP online games and the gameplay was just too vanilla for me.

  • Beast

Complete disappointment. No real fix in the patch, to my eyes it’s still the same fifa 11

  • John

EA should check out Konami’s recent patch announcement – now THAT’S how to patch a game. Oh, maybe you should check out Master League while you’re at it EA, because your career mode is a disgrace.

Good podcast guys, especially enjoyed hearing your thoughts re: Patch release and fallout.

It seems like the whole way this has been handled has come as quite a shock. When you think of the effort the make to engage the community pre release it is a massive contrast. When they do likewise next year do you think that situations like this will be discussed with the aim of making the process smoother for everyone?

    :)

  • Paul Smeltzer

Good ‘cast, it’s cool how you’re as disappointed as everyone else is with the practically non-existant fixes with the “patch”.

    Get em told 8)

  • Carlton

Already sold the game after I saw the game was WORSE than FIFA world cup which was a decent game( thats not really saying much) And on top of that they released a horrible patch….now there not even updating us on anything or speaking about the issue. Any body fed up with game get PES for PC or Xbox and Patch it and you will never look back…..
