PSN Outage: Urgent Update

Not something to be honest I thought we’d be posting about but based on the news to come out in the last hour I think it’s entirely appropriate that everyone is aware of the severity of the recent PSN outage and Sony’s latest update. Please head over to the Playstation Blog and read the latest update from Sony very carefully.

Potentially account details, personal information, purchase history and credit card details could have been leaked. The latter hasn’t been officially confirmed but we’d recommend that every one checks there accounts and be extremely vigilant for the next few days or until we hear otherwise from Sony.

It may also be worth resetting passwords for sites which share the account details/email that you use on PSN to protect your data across all the services that you use.

Please take any action that you feel is necessary to protect your data, it isn’t worth the risk.

Here’s the link again PLEASE read very carefully: Playstation Blog

    Thanks for the update guys.
If the worst case scenario occurs, SONY is going to get sued back to the stone ages. I hope it doesn’t get to that but I feel like something like this had to happen for them to fix obvious issues with their servers.

Haven’t bought anything on the PSN, yet (thankfully)

Ok guys, This is no bullshit this is as serious as stated by Sony. I live in australia i checked my credit card online and it was debit $2970
I rang the bank right away and they are closing my accounts and will be investigating to get my money back asap.

I think a class action in each country would be a good way to get back at Sony for this sort of stuff up. A large company like Sony should not have had this to be allowed to begin with.

I’m not sure Sony “allowed”, it hardly like they invited them in. No security system is 100% effective, and as yet this is the first example I have seen or heard of anyone reporting any problems with accounts, this may not be related in anyway, since Cyber fraud happens pretty much everyday.

My anger is directed towards the idiots that continue to think that it is their right to hack into these systems, anonymous, if it does turn out to be them, deserve to have the book thrown at them for this.

Apparently the issue is how Sony stored the data, everything as plain text instead of some form of encryption. I am very disappointed in Sony, luckily for me I have always constantly checked my accounts and my credit card info has not been used.

“Apparently the issue is how Sony stored the data, everything as plain text instead of some form of encryption.”

Any links for that? I have been looking for (reliable) information about the system Sony have been using, so far I can just find people bitching that Sony should have used better security, but no actual information about what the details are!
