FSB EXCLUSIVE: The FIFA Team Answer Our Questions

Let’s face it, playing FIFA 09 in the face of all the FIFA 10 news is getting harder. After starting a final Manager Mode gane as my beloved Tranmere Rovers (as well as fitting in a few online games along the way), I found myself getting more and more annoyed with the flaws. Poor reaction times and floaty shots in-particular have made the time until October seem longer than ever.

This time with FIFA 09 has served a purpose though; I put together a list of my gripes with the game, along with important questions asked repeatedly on the FSB forums (and various other FIFA-loving forums across the web). Eventually we had a list of seven key questions that needed answers. Now, courtesy of the FIFA 10 team, we have them.

FSB EXCLUSIVE: Manager Mode Screenshot

In the Manager Mode Q&A with Marcel Kuhn below, the new financial model of the game is mentioned several times. We were told this would lead to more realistic transfers etc… So imagine Marcel’s delight when the following transfer popped up in his current Manager Mode game. It’s not too far off the mark is it?

If you’re wondering what the text running across the screen is there for, the game is currently in development and so obviously it’s not what the final game will look like, don’t worry! Huge thanks to the guys at EA for letting us share this with you.

FSB EXCLUSIVE: Manager Mode Q&A With Marcel Kuhn

Looking over Marcel Kuhn’s MobyGames CV I smile from ear to ear, and not just because of his football game pedigree. According to the site the first game he worked on was SSX Tricky, one of my favourite games of all-time (and what a way to start your CV, with one of the most-loved PS2 games that I can think of). Since then he has worked on five FIFA games, two FIFA Manager games and a FIFA Manager expansion pack, so if anyone is qualified to turn Manager Mode into a deeper and more fulfilling experience, this is the guy.

Thankfully he’s also ridiculously accomodating and after a barrage of questions from yours truly – Manager Mode’s #1 fan – he took the time out from his busy schedule to give us some answers. Thank you Marcel, the community salutes you.

EXCLUSIVE: FIFA 09 Play-Test Update

Eight hundred years ago people thought the world was flat. One hundred years ago the world had not seen a world war… A single year ago, FIFA almost caught up with PES. In many departments EA’s flagship title was far superior to its rival however, question marks loomed on whether EA could ever match the fluidity and responsiveness that their Japanese rivals had mastered and supplied for over a decade. There has been much hype around FIFA 09, since the first videos of the game appeared and reports filtered down the wire that the response time was indeed sorted. I personally had the pleasure of flying to Vancouver to witness it for myself at EA’s own studios. I was very impressed with what I had seen.
