Because so many have asked, we can confirm there will be a downloadable roster update for FIFA 10 after the January transfer window has closed. Fear not. We’ll update you on that as soon as we’ve fixed a date.

Don’t expect any gameplay tweaks though – this is purely a roster update. Thanks again to Alexrstone for the heads-up.

Fresh off the press (well airwaves), we’ve just got news via the official FIFA 09 podcast – presented by Steve and Rom – that FIFA 09 will be getting kit updates for a select number of teams. Thanks to EA’s close relationship with Adidas, five teams that the kit maker sponsors will be having their kit(s) updated to the 2009/2010 season variants.

The teams are: Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and Marseille.

Currently the release date for the update hasn’t been confirmed for PSN users, but Rom confirmed Xbox Live Gold members will have the opportunity to download it May 28th, with Silver members having to wait a week later.

As soon as EA confirm an official release date for PSN users we’ll let you know. Cheers to Rom for the heads up!

As most people will now be aware, the January transfer window data update was released around midnight today! Hopefully lots of people will find that the suggestions they submitted through our online form have been applied into the game (it would be great if you guys could leave comments about that). For those who don’t have it and are not sure how to get it, here’s some information for you.

Firstly, it’s not classed as a title update, so you do not get a pop-up prompting you to download it when you start the game – you have to manually download it. I’ve put together some brief instructions on how to obtain it and use it below:

For Offline Use (Manager Mode etc.)

The only way that we know of to download the updated squad file for offline use is by updating your Adidas Live Season data. For that you simply go to the Adidas Live Season menu and select the “Download Latest Update” option – once this saves you will then have the latest squad file for offline use.

Obviously the Adidas Live Season data updates cost money, but you get one league free using the code on the back of your FIFA 09 manual (it’s surprising how many people don’t realise it’s there), so all you have to do is enter that code and activate your chosen free league. Once you’ve done that you can download the updated squad file (and if you don’t like the features of Adidas Live Season they can all be turned off in the main options).

For Online Use

To get the squad file for online use is as easy as pie; just start an online game (such as “Quick Ranked Match”), or create a new BAP session or something similar. The servers will automatically check to see if you have the new squad file, and if not it will ask you to download the new one. Once downloaded and saved to your storage device you’re good to go.

Firstly huge thanks to everyone who has submitted feedback so far; since the feedback form was launched last Thursday we’ve had a terrific response. As of two seconds ago there were 660 submissions for things fans would like to see fixed for their teams and their players.

Because the transfer window closes in a little over ten days time, we will close the submission form today (26th January) at 21:00 GMT. This gives us a chance to extract all the feedback and pass it on to EA with just enough time for EA to implement the changes in the January transfer window update.

So if you have been holding off on submitting feedback, do it now!

UPDATE #1: Just over four hours left now before the form is closed, and submissions currently add up to 952… Can we make it to 1,000?

UPDATE #2: Yes we did!

As anyone who’s a football fan knows, we’re currently in the middle of the January transfer window. 33 days in which the hopes and dreams of a club’s season can be boosted or shattered by signing or releasing players (just ask Spurs and Pompey fans). Anyone who’s a FIFA fan will also know EA are releasing a free squad update in early February once the transfer window has closed, which updates transfers, team selections, stats and appearances – this means that EA’s data editors around the globe are busy collating all of the news and information to make this update as complete as possible, and now you can help to contribute to this massive data and statistical collection.

FSB are proud to announce a new collaboration with EA SPORTS, the FSB Community Roster Update Form (or as I like to call it, the CRUF). This online form is your window into the EA database, and gives you the chance to ensure that data corrections about your favourite players are submitted in time for the squad update. Beckham have the wrong haircut? Torres wearing the wrong boots? Bentley’s free-kick stat overrated? Zaki’s everything underrated? Simply visit the above link and submit your feedback into the system. Once the data is collated and verified it’ll be passed on to the EA SPORTS data producers, who will then disseminate it to the data editors in charge of each team.

Obviously as this is an officially EA sanctioned data process, we ask you to take this seriously and only submit data you are 100% confident of. Please submit your data feedback fully and with as much information as possible. Below are a couple of examples of correctly filled in data submissions:

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the comments section and we’ll get back to you.

Good luck in the window everyone!

When I turned on my Xbox 360 today I received an update to the game and looking around the official forums it seems many other users have received it as well.

We’ve received details from EA that the PS3/360 update to fix some of the bugs and glitches will be released next week, and they’ve also given confirmation as to what the first update will fix.

FIFA 09 Update Notes (PS3 & Xbox 360)
We are pleased to announce a game update for FIFA 09 on PS3 and Xbox 360. In line with community feedback, we have spent time improving the gameplay experience and addressed the following problems:

- Fixed side-stepping issue on lofted through balls
Fixing the issue where a player sidesteps when trying to control a lofted through ball instead of running straight onto it and controlling it, was a top priority for the EAC development team. We’re happy to say that the team at EAC has been able to fix this problem and it will be included in the game update.

- Improved advantage rule: fixed goals being called back for free kicks
There was a problem in the advantage rule whereby the referee would call back a goal if it was scored when the advantage was being played. Instead the referee would give a FK or a PK to the fouled player. This issue has been resolved in the game update. Goals that are going in when a foul is committed will count when they score.

- Improved number assigning in Manager Mode
When signing a player in Manager Mode the player now makes a more sensible decision, based on this position, on which number he would like, whereas previously he would always take the number 2.

- Allowed up to eight user-controlled teams in Tournament Mode
After installing the game update it will be possible to play in Tournament Mode with up to 8 user-controlled teams. This gives the option to host bigger events with your friends to compete in offline-tournaments. Have fun!

- Removed ability to bring custom teams into online ranked matches
Everybody has the option to transfer players in his favorite team and create his own custom dream team. This is an option we want to offer everybody to enjoy the feeling of creating own teams and play matches online or offline. When it comes to ranked competitive online matches we think only real teams should compete against each other to keep everybody’s chances even. So with the update it is no longer possible to enter a ranked match with a custom created team. You will still be able to upload your customized team online as in customized starting line-up with the existing players of that team’s roster

- Fixed Stadium 23.Maj lag issue
We fixed a major frame rate issue in 23.Maj stadium.

- Fixed join issue in Online Team Play Lobbies
A game hang issue occurred during search for available OTP game sections within the lobby rooms has been resolved.

No word yet on if there will be more updates to come; obviously this initial update cannot address all of the bugs that have been reported to both EA and ourselves, so we’ll try to keep you updated.

In other news, development of a patch for FIFA 09 on next-gen consoles has been confirmed. Obviously many of you in PAL regions have FIFA 09 now, and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s pretty much the best FIFA ever; but unfortunately as most of you will have noticed, a few bugs and glitches managed to sneak their way through into the final version. Rest assured that we at FSB have sent a bug list off to EA and along with the community feedback on the official EA forums, the FIFA 09 development team are now beavering away on a patch and via the forums released this short statement:

I just wanted to confirm that:
1 – we are still working on fixes for a patch
2 – the list is not final yet, anything you see currently posted is fake
3 – we’ll know more in the coming week or so
