There’s been lots of noise from EA staff recently on Twitter regarding account bans and we’ve had it confirmed that over 2,500 people have been banned for Virtual Pro hacks alone in the last few weeks and it’s going to continue…

As well as this being good news for those effected by hacked VP’s in FIFA Pro Clubs this is also a bit of an advanced warning because if you have a hacked VP EA want to give you the opportunity to do the right thing and delete it, before the inevitable happens. These people won’t necessarily get off scot free either as temporary suspensions may still be dished out to those who have already done considerable damage.

“The bans are EA account bans, so it will affect their online play in all EA games. Also, these people should be aware that hacking the Xbox is an offense Microsoft takes very seriously, and they should consider the risk of full console bans as well”

There you have it, you have the chance to repent your sins but you do not have long. Don’t think you’ll get away with it either as EA have changed the in-game telemetry so that any modified VP’s now stand out like sore thumbs.

The clock is ticking…

Attention Clubs Fans! The FVPA are launching a new service geared at tightening up the FVPA/Clubs community and increasing the Rivalry (see what they did there?) between FVPA members by providing more tools to players and clubs.

The idea of Rivals is to steer teams away from just wanting to be the highest ranked in the game. In Rivals, you will be able to see your head to head records against other teams. You will be able too see if you are in the FVPA’s top 10 based on EA POINTS. This will show where your club stands within the community, not just the whole of FIFA pro clubs against teams you don’t know. You will be able to increase your player value within Rivals. You will earn virtual wages and wage demands will increase based on your status. Your club will have a budget and will have to try and stay in the black.

International players will be able to be selected by your national manager in rivals and you’ll be able to keep track of your international record! Clubs are not just battling it out to have the highest points, there will also be various tournaments throughout the year. Tournament successes go into one big table, showing where teams rank based on their success during tournaments. Each tournament you feature in will give you the opportunity to earn tournament points. The FIFA year will be split into seasons and all tournaments within a season will count towards the table. This is effectively a league season.

There will be various ranking tables available to see where you and/or your club rank amongst others. We also have the EA rankings table so you can see how your team stands based on EA data within our forum. You’ll be kept up to date of latest player signings, international call ups, results and much much more.

Rivals collects your results automatically. Your EA data, which includes your points total, is downloaded on a daily basis. You can earn wages and your transfer value will increase the more you play. Your club has a fan base and generates virtual cash based on match results. You can keep track of how well your team compares to the rest of the community. Rivals is adaptable. We’ve built it from scratch, custom made to only work with our site setup so that if we want to add a new feature to it (which we will) then we can do. Hopefully the rivalry between teams grows and grows in a fun and respectful way.

If you’re interested, start following @FVPA_Rivals on Twitter, and head over to the FVPA site to check it out. Are you planning on getting involved?

Daves surname, Bryant, has never been put into FIFA. He confessed on an early podcast that he’s been using “Brian” as a placeholder, much to the amusement of myself and other community members. We’ve been using it to take the piss out of him ever since, and finding that there was already a @brian797 account on twitter made it even funnier.

Sadly, it looks like that’s about to change. Simon Humber has offered people the chance to request names that they’d like to see in FIFA12. The catch? It needs to be organised into one big list. That’s where we come in. We’ll do that bit for you.

Simply post your request in the comments below, we’ll collate them and pass them on to Simon. It’s also worth noting that not all entries will be accepted, keep them clean and sensible.

You can see Simons original tweet here.

UPDATES:

The list has now been collated and sent to EA. The final tally hitting 821.

Don’t be disheartened if your name doesn’t make it in, there is only limited recording time, Simon Humber tweeted yesterday:

“We’ll do as many as we can given the time available.”

Since their introduction in FIFA09 Virtual Pros have been some what un-appreciated by the FIFA community in my opinion. Gameplay, Career Mode and Online get all the attention these days but has any other brand new feature added as much to the FIFA series as Virtual Pros have in the last three years?

Virtual Pros have given us all a sense of identity in FIFA, something that’s unique and our own, unless silver afro’s are your thing. But what they also do is fulfil that life long ambition we all have of playing along side some of the greatest football players of our generation, even if it is only in the virtual world.

As well as advancing things for the individual gamer the implementation of Virtual Pros has also spawned a whole new sub section of the FIFA community through the Pro Clubs game mode. Organisations like the FVPA are taking FIFA Clubs and Virtual Pros to new a whole new level and the potential for further growth in this sector is massive.

However one huge question still hangs over Virtual Pros that EA has yet to provide a sufficient answer for. How does a promising young talent develop to become the best player in the world?

Currently to improve your Virtual Pro in FIFA11 you gain accomplishments through completing various in-game tasks either online or offline. Scoring a hattirck of headers will give you a nice aerial boost whilst completing 100 matches will improve your stamina. This task based system works well but what it doesn’t consider is anything else which contributes towards player development.

What we currently lack to supplement in-game accomplishments is any kind of Virtual Pro training. Training for any footballer in today’s game represents a huge part of their daily routine and continual development. So therefore it’s only right that something with that level of importance to real footballers is represented in FIFA and Virtual Pros too. But how exactly could EA implement Virtual Pro training?

Those of you that have played EAs Fight Night series will know exactly how fighter training is dealt with in that games career mode. In-between each fight you’re able to choose from a selection of training exercises which work on specific skill areas. Pummelling the heavy bag would increase punch power, whilst a stint of sparring might improve agility or speed. The levels of rewards you get from each task are based on your performance so the better you do the faster you level.

As for potential training exercises which could be applied to FIFA the options are essentially as limitless football. Penalties to improve compsure, passing drills to improve accuracy, taking on AI defenders to unlock skill moves, the world is literally our oyster. If anyone remembers the old tutorial system in PES6 you’ll know where I’m coming from.

The problem that FIFA has with this training model is the sheer volume of training that would take place in a football game when compared to boxing. There can be up to 3-4 months between a single boxing match with just one training camp completed during that time, whereas in FIFA the time between games can be just a few days. The obvious danger would be that too much forced training could become cumbersome and distract from what we should be doing in FIFA, playing football.

A way around this problem would be to have a wider array of training exercises than Fight Night and to limit Virtual Pros to the use of just one exercise per calendar week. That would keep the development steady and force you mix and match your drills depending on which skill areas you want to focus on. To be honest as long as the training drills are short, sharp and engaging I think people would take to the routine rather well.

I also think it’s a real shame to be wasting the shiny new Training Arena that we all lobbied for so strongly for FIFA10. The training arena would be a perfect fit to house this kind of activity and as EA used precious development time to implement it in the first place, we may as well be using it for the purpose it was intended.

The only place that this kind of “mini-game” training works for me is with Virtual Pros. I don’t think you should be having this with your whole squad in say a Career Mode save because that would just be ridiculous. If you start up a Career Mode as a manager then this model doesn’t apply but as a player or player/manager with a Virtual Pro I think it’s entirely applicable. There does need to be some kind of global squad based training system for Career Mode as well but that’s a whole other article entirely.

What this type of training would do for the Virtual Pro system is bring the gamer and their pro closer together. I feel there’s a certain level of detachment between accomplishments and Virtual Pros because most of the time you aren’t consciously trying to unlock them, it just happens.

Being able to choose your training for me is extremely powerful because you’re actively sculpting your pro the way you want. When you start to see great through balls coming off more and more often in game you’ll know it was because you trained hard on that drill for a whole month and not that a something appeared in the top right of the screen, made a noise and handed it to you. It would add a certain RPG element to FIFA which I think people would really go for based on the success of that genre in gaming generally.

I’m not for a second saying that accomplishments should be removed from FIFA I think they’re a good source of development and I love the accomplishment book for example. What I’d like to see accomplishments focus on more is the unlocking of traits, player customisation and the development of physical attributes. The actual football skill based attributes I think should be a 50/50 split between off the field training and in-game accomplishments because to me that makes the most football sense.

There’s no doubt in my mind that becoming the best player in the world is a combination of many, many attributes. Drive, skill, passion, performance, leadership, ambition to name just a few. But would Ronaldo and Messi be the players they are today without training? Not a chance…

Mike Takla continues EA’s producer blog series with a look at the changes made to the Virtual Pro mode since its birth last year. Mike goes in to detail on pro personality, traits, accomplishments and the all new achievements book. EA look to have made some real advances in this area remedying a lot of the frustrations the community had with Virtual Pro last year. But don’t listen to me, have a read yourself.

Mike Takla, who has been working on this year’s Virtual Pro mode, has released a ton of new information on how it works via the EA forums. Thanks to dave797 for the heads-up!

To see it, click the read more button below.

The following is what determines your attributes:

1. Your position
2. Your build (size)
3. Accomplishments
4. Form

Your position and your build will set your attributes around 50-80.

Depending on the attribute, Accomplishments can increase these by 5-25 (depends on the attribute, ie. there is 5 Strength Points available, 10 Acceleration, 20 Passing, 25 Stamina).

Accomplishments will also unlock Traits such as Skilled Dribbling, Giant Throw, Flair – check out the screenshot in the blog [see the article below this one on the FIFA Soccer Blog main page].

Depending on the attribute, form can increase your attributes from 6-9 points.

I think the fastest Virtual Pro in the world, who will be someone with a build that allows them to reach this speed, will be 96, although he won’t be 96 every match, unless he’s very very good! And he also will never be able to be the strongest player out there, by quite a distance.

…

And a little bit more info, including store upgrades…

I don’t want to go into details, as [to be honest] I just don’t want to look up all the numbers right now, and think we should leave something to look forward to really!

Your Virtual Pro will start around 70 overall, it does slightly depend on the position and your build.

Through playing the game you can get him well into the 90s. I’m not 100% sure how high anyone can go but I think it’s very unlikely many players will get to an OR of 95 or above. Basically the best players in Clubs will have the same kind of attributes as the real players with top form in Live Season last year.

You’ll likely pick up rewards related to a specific position, so will become more suited to a position, but it is possible for someone to unlock Accomplishments in every position. But this does not mean they will become the perfect player. Say for example I complete all Defence Accomplishments and then change my player to a forward, yes I will have better tackling than another forward who has never played in defence but I won’t have better tackling than someone who is currently set as a defender.

I don’t want to talk about the “boosts” loads as I really don’t think it’s worth the continued discussion, but lets just say that if you play the game you can get into the 90s overall, boosts might help you get nearer and around the 80 mark, for a time as they are limited to a certain number of matches, but there will quickly become a time where it is not something that will interest anyone has been playing the game, as there player will have been improved through gameplay. They really are either a “help you get started” or a “catch up”, if people choose to use them.
